In March of 2014, Lindsay spent the evening at a friend’s party. She left, crossed the street and a day and a half later, woke up in the hospital.

“I was hit by a hit and run driver. I never saw the car and I lost consciousness immediately.  When I woke up, they told me they couldn’t save my leg, it needed to be amputated. I begged them to give it a few more days to see if feeling would return. It never did.”

Lindsay was completely devastated by the loss of her leg, and problems got worse when infection after infection led to the removal of even more of her leg, resulting in an above the knee amputation.

“I prayed all the time. I’m a young, active mom. My only hope for mental and physical recovery was the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM).”

When Lindsay first got there, she worked on getting stronger in a wheelchair, but her goal was to walk. And with RIM’s help she got there. Her life dramatically changed when she got her first prosthetic. Lindsay’s first few steps gave her more than her mobility back, it gave her hope that she could have a great future with her family.

Today, Lindsay has a more advanced robotic prosthetic, which gives her the ability to bend at the knee and have a normal gait. She can do bends, squats and go up the stairs.

“I was so excited when I was able to walk around Disney World with my daughter. It was a dream trip made possible by RIM. That trip built my confidence up so much that I was recently able to go to Las Vegas for a bachelorette weekend, and I didn’t miss a moment.”

Lindsay says she can’t thank RIM enough. It was a total life changer and one that’s allowing her to have a great life with her family.
