Successful cancer rehabilitation depends on a multidisciplinary approach with the entire care team working closely to manage patients and their individual needs. Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s (RIM) multidisciplinary oncology rehabilitation team includes licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and certified lymphedema therapists dedicated to helping cancer patients and survivors reclaim their health, well-being and quality of life.

Our program is designed specifically for patients with all types of cancer diagnoses, in all phases of treatment. RIM’s experienced team can address a variety of conditions including the following:

  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Poor endurance
  • Decline in balance
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Loss of function
  • Postural changes
  • Lymphedema
  • Joint stiffness
  • Pain
  • Difficulty performing daily activities
  • Difficulty swallowing or speaking
  • Numbness in feet or hands
  • Scar tissue restriction

Lymphedema Therapy

Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for lymphedema. RIM’s team of certified lymphedema therapists (CLT) specialize in:

  • Manual lymphatic drainage
  • Compression wrapping
  • Skin care and education
  • Therapeutic exercise
